The company founder and originator of Royal Printing Service, Ralph F. Passante immigrated from Italy at the age of 14 and 7 years later opened the doors to Royal Printing. His untimely death in 1963 left the foundation for a company that his youngest son, Ralph Stephen would inherit and take to new heights in the commercial printing industry.

OUR HISTORY

Royal Printing Service is a thriving modern business that utilizes the latest 21st-century technology and management principles. Its beginnings, however, are firmly rooted in the early 20th-century American immigrant experience.

More than 90 years ago, a 14-year-old boy named Ralph F. Passante embarked on a journey from his native Italy to the United States, where he hoped to pursue the American Dream by establishing his own business and building a foundation for his family’s future. In 1932, just seven years after arriving at Ellis Island, he first opened the doors of Royal Printing Service. From the start, this remarkable young man defied the dire economic challenges of the Great Depression and prospered, expanding his fledgling business so rapidly that within two years it needed larger quarters. He then relocated to its present-day location on 51st Street in West New York, New Jersey, from which it has operated for more than 80 years.

Following the untimely death of Royal Printing’s founder in 1963, his son, Ralph S. Passante, Sr., took the helm at just 21 years of age. Under his direction, the company carried forward his father’s vision and reached new heights. Over the years, Royal has continually upgraded its facilities and in 1972 became an industry pioneer by converting to digital typesetting. The business has continued to grow by acquiring other printing companies and expanding the scope of its production and operations.

Royal Printing Service expanded yet again when the third generation of the Passante family joined the enterprise. Ralph’s sons, David and Kevin, who both graduated from the Rochester Institute of Technology with degrees in printing management, have overseen the company’s transition to its current 30,000-square-foot facility, incorporating the latest technological advances available to the printing industry. Today, the family’s fourth generation is poised to join the ranks and carry on its long-standing commitment to delivering the highest quality printing services to its customers.

Royal Printing’s exponential growth is reflected in its enduring devotion to the community. It proudly supports numerous non-profit initiatives and governmental-assistance programs, and actively participates in promoting economic development and progress throughout Hudson County.
